Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A Isolated DC-DC Charger
The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A is a professional isolated DC-DC charger designed for recharging a service battery from an alternator while driving. It is suitable for camper vans, caravans, expedition vehicles, and boats with both conventional and smart alternators.
The isolated design means that the input and output sides are galvanically separated. The charger uses adaptive three-stage charging, and thanks to its built-in Bluetooth, it can be completely configured and monitored via the VictronConnect app.
Main advantages
- 30 A charging current
- isolated design
- galvanically isolated input and output
- suitable for both conventional and smart alternators
- suitable for LiFePO4 and lead-acid batteries
- three-stage adaptive charging algorithm
- built-in Bluetooth
- configuration and monitoring via VictronConnect
- automatic engine detection
- can be used as an adjustable power supply
- short circuit and high temperature protection
- possibility of parallel connection of multiple units
For both conventional and smart alternators
In modern vehicles, a smart alternator can significantly change its output voltage or temporarily limit charging while driving. The Orion-Tr Smart ensures controlled charging of the service battery even in these systems.
The charger can be configured to charge the service battery only when the engine is running. Detection values can be adjusted according to the specific vehicle, or charging can be controlled by an external signal.
Adaptive three-stage charging
The Orion-Tr Smart uses a three-stage charging algorithm that adapts the charging process to the battery's state.
For a lightly discharged battery, it shortens the absorption phase, while after a deeper discharge, it automatically extends it to ensure proper battery recharge.
For LiFePO4 and lead-acid batteries
Controlled DC-DC charging is also suitable for LiFePO4 batteries, which can draw high current when directly connected to an alternator.
The Orion-Tr Smart monitors the charging process and allows setting the correct charging profile according to the battery used.
Bluetooth and VictronConnect
Bluetooth is built directly into the charger. Using the VictronConnect app, you can monitor operation, change charging parameters, and adapt the device to a specific electrical installation.
Parallel connection
If higher charging power is required, multiple Orion-Tr Smart units can be connected in parallel.
Thermal protection
The charger monitors its own operating temperature and automatically reduces output power if it increases. It provides full power up to an ambient temperature of 40 °C and can operate up to 55 °C.

Isolated or non-isolated version?
In the isolated version, the input and output sides are galvanically separated. The starter and service batteries thus have separate positive and negative connections.
In the non-isolated version, the negative branch is common. This is commonly used in automotive installations where both batteries are connected to a common vehicle chassis.
The isolated design is particularly useful in installations where electrical separation of both sides is required for technical reasons.
