The Victron Orion XS 1400 is a powerful and versatile DC-DC charger for recharging a service battery from an alternator. It is designed for both 12V and 24V systems and is suitable for camper vans, caravans, expedition vehicles, and boats.

A major advantage is its wide range of input and output voltage. The Orion XS 1400 is therefore not limited to the classic 12V → 12V combination and can also be used in installations combining 12V and 24V systems.

Support for modern smart alternators, Bluetooth, VictronConnect, and advanced charge management are standard features.

Main Advantages

  • maximum power up to 1400 W
  • maximum output current 50 A
  • use in both 12V and 24V systems
  • suitable for Euro 5 and Euro 6 smart alternators
  • efficiency up to 98.5%
  • adaptive four-stage charging
  • built-in Bluetooth
  • VictronConnect app
  • VE.Smart Networking
  • VE.Direct interface
  • electronic protection
  • passive fanless cooling
  • possibility of parallel connection of multiple units
  • IP65 protection
  • compact dimensions and weight of only 0.52 kg

12 V and 24 V in one device

The Orion XS 1400 offers a wide range of input and output voltage, allowing it to be used in various onboard electrical system configurations.

This provides greater flexibility in system design and enables its use even where 12V and 24V technologies meet.

It achieves its maximum power of 1400 W at 28 V and 50 A.

For Classic and Smart Alternators

Modern smart alternators, especially those used in Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles, can significantly vary their charging voltage while driving. This complicates conventional service battery charging directly from the alternator.

The Orion XS 1400 manages charging and allows its parameters to be set according to the specific vehicle, alternator, and service battery.

It also helps compensate for voltage drops that occur, for example, over longer cable runs.

Adaptive Four-Stage Charging

The charging algorithm automatically adjusts the individual phases according to the battery's state. This allows the charger to react differently to a slightly discharged battery than to a deeply discharged battery.

The result is efficient charging without unnecessarily prolonging the charging cycle.

Bluetooth and VictronConnect

The built-in Bluetooth allows for charger setup and monitoring directly from a phone or tablet via the VictronConnect app.

The app allows you to monitor device operation, change charging parameters, or perform firmware updates.

VE.Smart Networking

The Orion XS 1400 supports VE.Smart Networking and can wirelessly use information from other compatible Victron devices.

More accurate data on voltage, current, or battery temperature can thus be incorporated into charging control.

High Efficiency without Fan

Maximum efficiency reaches up to 98.5%. Thanks to efficient passive cooling, the device does not require a fan, which means silent operation and fewer mechanical components.

It can achieve full power at ambient temperatures up to 40 °C.

Device and Electrical System Protection

The Orion XS 1400 includes electronic protection against overload, short circuit, high temperature, and undervoltage.

When operating limits are exceeded, it can automatically adjust its output to prevent damage to the device.

Parallel Connection

For systems requiring even higher power, multiple Orion XS 1400 units can be connected in parallel to increase the total available charging power.

What does non-isolated design mean?

In a non-isolated DC-DC charger, the input and output sides share a common negative pole. In automotive installations, where starter and service batteries are connected to the vehicle's common ground, this is a common solution.

Isolated DC-DC chargers have galvanically separated input and output sides and are used in installations where such isolation is necessary for technical reasons.

For a standard camper conversion with a common vehicle ground, the non-isolated design is a standard and practical choice.
